An elderly man was caught on Wednesday attempting to flee a Santa Cruz cellular telephone store with $60,000 worth of stolen loot.

Police said around 3.30 a.m. officers of the San Juan Police Station were on mobile patrol when they were alerted by the sound of a burglar alarm of a business place located along Saddle Road, San Juan. Investigating officers caught the suspect, aged 65, climbing out of the roof of the business place with a bag in his hand.

Officers checked the bag and found 23 cell phones. Another bag in the man's possession contained a hacksaw, a pair of pliers, flashlights and a crow bar. He was arrested and then taken to the San Juan Police Station where he was charged. Police said he is expected to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate today.
